Abstract
Perpetual preferred equity issued against a Bitcoin reserve produces a forward-coverage problem. The measure of forward solvency is the Bitcoin Coverage Ratio (BCR): BTC reserve value over annual dividend obligation, in years of forward coverage. BCR collapses the preferred-to-reserve ratio and dividend rate into a single coverage statistic. Primary failure occurs at BCR<1x, where the reserve cannot cover one forward year of obligation. BCR is the sufficient parameter for forward solvency in the stripped pure-play model (no cash, no capital markets access, dividends funded entirely from BTC sales). The model is backtested across 245 starting BCR values per regime against four observed Bitcoin drawdowns: April 2013, Mt. Gox 2014, ICO Unwind 2018, and Fed Tightening 2022. Required starting BCRs for the three severe-depth multi-year regimes span 7.6x to 11.0x BCR. April 2013, the only short-duration regime, clears at materially lower coverage. These are stripped-model upper bounds. A real issuer with the optionality the model denies would clear the same regimes at lower coverage. Primary failure occurs well before the reserve is exhausted. Depth and duration both stress the structure, and their effects compound. The compounding depends on the drawdown's shape: the time spent at each depth, measured by the time-at-depth distribution. Across the regimes, the means of those distributions cluster tightly. Anchored on this clustering, a single coverage surface maps required starting BCR across depth and duration.
